This case study was conducted as part of Tanja's master's thesis, which aimed to explore and develop effective coaching and workshop methods for enhancing cultural intelligence and promoting inclusive leadership.
The study had two main objectives: first, to identify the key factors that influence the coaching of cultural intelligence, and second, to investigate the impact of cultural intelligence on inclusive leadership styles. The findings of this study provide valuable insights and strategies for individuals and organizations seeking to improve their intercultural communication skills and create a more inclusive workplace.
Coaching of cultural intelligence not only increases self-awareness but also expands perceptions of other individual’s working style tendencies, thus enhancing inclusive leadership. Understanding one’s behaviour and working styles develops the skills to adapt to different cultural situations.
All of the participants stated that obtaining insight regarding their colleagues’ working style preferences, increased their personal awareness of how differently individuals work.
The leaders reported that they are able to communicate better with different stakeholders, since they understand the context and reasons behind each individual’s working styles.
56% of the participants stated that becoming more aware of their working styles and gaining practical tips on how to implement WSA results into daily operations, had impacted their leadership style.
The case study consisted of an individual coaching session based on the coachee's working style analysis, and a workshop for the whole management team. The leaders stated how their work involves communicating with different stakeholder groups around the world, which emphasized a need to understand cross-cultural communication better.
Therefore, the goal of the individual coaching was to gain insight about the leaders' working styles and construct information about how culture has influenced on the working styles. The individual coaching was based on the WSA- working style analysis.
The goal of the workshop was to improve communication amongst the leadership team through analysing the WSA group profile and developing cross-cultural communication skills.
Together with my colleagues of the Management Team and Leadership Team, we engaged in a process with Tanja to both understand our individual working and communication styles, and by putting the analyses together, understand how we work/could work better together. Tanja’s excellent moderating skills in the group sessions, as well as her engagement with the individual coaching sessions, made the overall process very fruitful, providing a clear and actionable road map to harvest our inner talents and cultivate our strengths on the personal and collective levels.
Socrates, when asked to sum up all philosophical commandments, replied: ’’know Yourself’’. This was true then, and is still applicable today also in the management and leadership domain. Tanja’s services supported us in the journey to know ourselves, become better professionals and better leaders. I strongly recommend Tanja as a coach and workshop moderator, and the WSA analysis as a meaningful and relevant tool to explore one self.
